Most office spaces are just reprisals of high school bathroom meet-ups. There's gossip, hilariously spot-on archetypes, and the casual yapper who never knows that they yap too much. Most of the time, there's someone in the group who will tell them to put a sock in it, but in an office setting, that's a big no-no… annoyingly.

What do you do if another colleague's words bulldoze over you like you're fresh pavement? Jim made you miss the beginning of your lunch hour, again, and now you know way too many useless factoids about something you'll probably never think of again.

At some point, the truth must come out. The employee who shared this story explains that their colleague is an avid TED Talk fan and makes sure everyone knows it. At the office coffee station, this colleague shares tidbits about the TED Talk they've recently watched in excessive detail, and now it has become a chore for every other employee in the office to listen.

It's easy to say that the employees should be honest about this colleague's behavior, but you never know what the colleague might do in return. The office space should be a safe space for everyone, but when it's multiple people against one, things tend to get a little messy…

  • aw284 I had a coworker that would go on and on about his wife and daughters. Not the nicest things either. We were both at our computers and I was only half paying attention because he's so loud. I heard the part when he said "...you probably don't care about this stuff." I looked him in the eye and said, "I really don't." He laughed but then got up and went to find someone else to talk their ear off. Some people just need a direct comment.
